Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, a hack-and-slash game developed by Omega Force, is available for purchase on the Nintendo Switch. This game is rated T and costs $59.99. It branches off of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and can be played as a single-player or a two-player game.

This game follows the story of multiple characters from the Legend of Zelda universe as they try to keep the Great Calamity from happening. As you play, you unlock new characters and can upgrade old ones. You participate in lots of battles with an assortment of new enemies. Some playable characters include Link, Zelda, Daruk, Revali, Urbosa, Mipha, and many others.

I enjoyed playing this game. It allows gamers to play with all their favorite characters that they weren’t able to play as in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. There are a large variety of bosses, quests, and items that you can collect. There always seems to be more to do when you play this game; however, it is a vastly different game from Breath of the Wild. It focuses greatly on destroying droves of enemies and is not an open-world game. If you are looking to play a game that is the same format as Breath of the Wild, I would not recommend Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. To contrast, there were a lot of new cutscenes and elements that were fun to experiment with in Hyrule Warriors. This game allows players to learn more about the characters in a way that we couldn’t in Breath of the Wild. Players also got the chance to upgrade their weapons and characters, which was a fun new mechanic to play around with. All of the characters had different fighting styles that made it enjoyable to try out new characters and see what new moves they could perform.

While it is a different format from the other Legend of Zelda games, it was still fun to play. Hyrule Warriors (a game with the same title but released on a different date and on a different console), was released on the Wii U in 2014. It is also a hack-and-slash game that features the classic Legend of Zelda characters. If you enjoyed playing Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity then you should certainly try playing the other games in the Legend of Zelda series. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds are all games that you may want to try.

I recommend that anyone who enjoys The Legend of Zelda series plays this game. I really enjoyed the storyline of the game and the new features that it allowed players to use. I loved getting to play as all my favorite characters. This game has a lot that you can do. Even when you finish the main storyline, there are still missions to complete, bosses to battle, and new items to attain. However, if you are hoping to play this game I greatly recommend that you play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild first. It will be hard to understand the plot and characters if you don’t. This game’s story had a satisfying end that helped patch up some questions and “what if’s?” from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
