Is caffeine healthy for students?

Caffeine has been interrupting students learning and how they perform.

Almost everyone at sierra consumes around 300-400 mg of caffeine a day, which is equal to 4-5 cups of coffee. Caffeine in which that much is being consumed everyday doctors are calling it a drug.

According to the New York University’s Langone Medical Center drinking too many caffeinated beverages may have a negative impact on a teens nutritional status because, they are not getting the vitamins that you would need, compared to  you drinking milk or juice.

With consuming 300-400 mgs of caffeine you can have these side effects. You get these side effects because the body is treating it like a drug. The body treats it like a drug because of the rush that it gives to your blood.

  • Agitation
  • Anxiety
  • Shakiness
  • Dizziness
  • Upset stomach
  • Rapid heart rate
  • Headaches
  • Dehydration

A little bit of caffeine everyday won’t hurt a teens health but, it is healthier to drink milk or juice instead of coffee or soda. Caffeine can affect how you sleep and it will have a domino affect on your everyday lives at school and home.
