According to the Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) microwavable popcorn could have a link to cancer because there is an chemical named, perfluorooctanoic (PFOA) coating in the bag that rubs off on the popcorn when it is heated. When the acid from the PFOA is extracted it could cause cancer in animals and it is likely to cause cancer in humans. There is a way to solve this problem if you follow these simple steps to make your own healthy popcorn.

  • Popcorn kernels (⅓ Cup)
  • Salt (½ Tsp)
  • Olive Oil (1 Tsp)
  • (Optional if you want to make kettle corn) Sugar (1 Tbsp)
  • 1 Brown paper bag

  1. Put all the ingredients into the bag.
  2. Close the top of the bag with two folds to seal it up
  3. Shake the bag tightly to mix the ingredients
  4. Microwave for 2 min and 10 seconds (about)
  5. Enjoy

I recommend you to try this because even though you are microwaving it, it does not have the PFOA coating the bag that links to cancer.
