The buzz is in the air; the buzz of the spelling bee that is! This years spelling was on December 10th, 2018 and started at 3:15 pm and ended approximately 4:30 pm. The competition ended in a draw due to the fact that they ran out of district-approved words. The draw was between Evan Liberski and Kayla Stutz. Kiarra Berry took 2nd Place.

The Bee started out with 14 students and gradually decreased with each round. It started out with more basic words like “comet” and “tendrils” but then got into more complicated words like “beryllium” and “portentously”. (Feel free to look those up!)

“It would have been nice if more people had participated especially since they had the opportunity to and they are the top spellers in the school,” said Trey Thomason, a contestant in the bee (7th Grade). Five people were given the chance from each team to join the Bee but only 14 participated.

Each of the top spellers had to take a spelling test to actually qualify for the Bee. The top 5 highest scores get to decide if they want to sign up for the Bee or if they would like to pass.

The top 3 spellers then go on to the District Spelling Bee held at Castle Rock Middle School in February. Be there to support you friends/family!
