Middle school students are watching a show called “13 Reasons Why,” which is about a girl who commits suicide, but she makes 13 tapes about each reason and each person who treated her poorly or made her feel depressed. There are many graphic scenes. Like, sexual assault, suicide, blood, and more. It leaves a disturbed feeling for most middle schoolers.

The show “13 Reasons Why,” has become a very popular show for middle schoolers. Many kids have different opinions on what message the show can leave. Many kids haven’t reached the maturity level required to watch the show.

“It was a good show, but I don’t think it’s appropriate for a lot of middle schoolers,” said Justine Teters.

Many parents have told their children not to watch the show. Feeling that the show may contribute to negative behavior. Other parents believe it can teach a lesson or have a meaningful theme. Believing it can improve behavior and teach a valuable lesson on cyberbullying and suicide prevention.

I personally feel like Thirteen Reasons Why is a very important show for middle school students to watch. It shows Hannah Baker’s descent into depression throughout her high school experience, and her eventual suicide. The topics they deal with such as rape, alcohol, assault, and suicide are very important for our generation to become educated on and acknowledge. Even if this show will make you understand depression and the affects of bullying on others, it is also very violent and gory at times. If you feel like you are not ready to watch this show, then that is completely O.K. You just need to watch it when you think you are at a maturity level that is appropriate for this show. You should also feel free to skip certain episodes that may be too much for you. My friend skipped Bryce’s episodes and the suicide in episode 13. It did not take away from her experience because the show always summed up what happened in the past episodes without showing some of the graphic footage. Overall, I highly recommend that you give this show a try!

I agree. But we had too many students believing the show was spreading negative attitude and behavior.
