For kids in first grade, that means 10 minutes a night, while high school seniors could get two hours of work per night. Sierra’s Homework Policy states that no class can assign more than ten minutes of homework every night. No more than a total of 50 minutes per team.

Can this much homework cause depression? Well, researchers found that spending too much time on homework meant that students were not meeting their developmental needs or cultivating other critical life skills. Students were more likely to forgo activities, stop seeing friends or family, and not participate in hobbies.

A group of researchers from Harvard Health asked students whether they experienced physical symptoms of stress, such as headaches, exhaustion, sleep deprivation, weight loss, and stomach problems. More than two-thirds of the students said they used alcohol and drugs, primarily marijuana, to cope with stress.

Even though homework can be beneficial, students attend school for around 8 hours. But, homework adds on another two hours for middle/high school students.

On the other hand, homework can help students catch up and have a better understanding of the unit. But is two hours really the appropriate time needed?

Hello, I’m writing a paper in how schools can often negatively affect students in the realm of mental health. It seems you refer to a group of researchers for your surveys. I was wondering if you would be able to give more details on which researchers conducted the survey and which students they surveyed. Thank you!

(https://www.health.harvard.edu/newsletter_article/sleep-and-mental-health) I used Harvard Health as my resource, I believe they seem to be extremely helpful.
