What is your favorite part about being a dog handler?

Being able to be around Remi and being able to play with her and hang out with the other handlers.

What did you have to do to become a dog handler?

I had to fill out the application and complete an interview with Mrs. Gourley and other teachers and counselors.

How often do you get to work with Remi?

Remi usually comes in either 3 or 4 days a week and we usually get to work with her every seventh period.

What do you do on days that Remi isn’t here?

On days that Remi isn’t here, we usually sit around and do homework or extra work that we have, or we help the kids in Base Camp and help with tasks around Base Camp.

Has the program with Remi been going well so far?

Yes lots of kids enjoy coming in to play with Remi and find it a good way to deal with stress school related or other stress triggers.

Do you think that the program will go on for years to come?

Yes the program has worked great so far and I think that a lot of kids in the future will find it very beneficial.

What changes are they making to the program for next year?

The application to become a handler is a lot more in depth than last yea.  Kids have to have parents fill out a recommendation as well as their teachers have to sign off and they have to have only A’s and B’s as grades to apply.

How often do you take Remi outside?

Usually, 4th period handlers take Remi out for a bathroom break so it’s not usually an issue for 7th period handlers.

What do you do when there is not kid in Base Camp and Remi is here?

When there are no kids in Base Camp, we play fetch and monkey in the middle in an effort to tire Remi out.

If there are any changes that you would want in the program what would they be?

I would just want everything to be more organized and just making sure that Remi is here as much as possible.
