Simple Strawberry Chocolate Cake

  • 3 eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 and ½ cup plain yogurt
  • 2 and ¼ cups all purpose flour
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Chocolate Ganache:

  • 160ml heavy cream
  • 160g chocolate chips or chopped chocolate

Filling and Topping:

  • 1 and ½ cups fresh strawberries




  1. Lightly grease two 6” round cake pans, and line the bottoms with parchment paper
  2. Preheat oven to 350F (180C)
  3. Beat eggs and sugar with an electric mixer until creamy
  4. Add yogurt and oil. Mix well
  5. Gradually sift the flour directly into the mixing bowl and mix just until combined
  6. Add in cocoa powder, baking powder, and vanilla extract. Stir well. Don’t over mix the batter, just until everything combines
  7. Share the batter into two pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean
  8. Remove them from the oven and let them cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then remove them from the pans, and carefully take off the parchment paper on the bottom. Allow them to cool completely on a cooling rack.  
  9. While cakes are cooling, prepare chocolate ganache

Chocolate Ganache:

  1. Measure out the chocolate chips, and put them in a glass bowl
  2. Put the heavy cream in a small sauce pan on medium heat, and keep it on the heat until it comes to a light boil
  3. Pour the heavy cream in the glass bowl with the chocolate chips, and cover it with one of the empty cake pans
  4. Let that sit for about 3 minutes
  5. Take the cake pan off of the bowl, and mix ingredients until it’s just combined. Don’t over mix of the ganache will split and become grainy

Topping and Decorating:

  1. Cut the strawberries into thin slices
  2. Put one of the cakes (the flattest one) on the plate or platter you plan on serving it on
  3. Cover the top with ganache, and top with strawberries
  4. Repeat this process with the other cake
  5. Enjoy! 🙂

*Keep cake refrigerated after preparing*
