Ready Player One, directed by Steven Spielberg, was released on March 29, 2018. The movie is 2 hours and 19 minutes long and is rated PG-13. It is a thriller/fantasy genre and is rated 8/10 on IMDb.

The film is set in 2045, with the world in shambles and chaos. But the populace has an escape from their cruel world in the OASIS, a virtual reality universe created by James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his trillion dollar fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS. When Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a reality-bending treasure hunt through the OASIS.

Ready Player One reminded me a lot of Avatar (2009). On the outside, it may look very different, but if you look at the close details, you’ll actually see a lot of similarities. It took place in a dystopian future, with Earth falling apart and the people looking for refuge in a relatively unknown place. Both the characters in each movie went into a body or avatar that is not their own to try and save the world (OASIS and Pandora) from a corrupt and evil force, who wishes to take the world for their own gain.

The movie overall is great. Although the film was very different from the book, it still managed to be quite good and interesting. It has a great storyline that keeps you watching and interested, while being funny as well. If you like video games, thriller movies, and fantasy, then I would recommend this movie to you.
