A standardized test is a test that is a test that is administered and scored in a consistent manner. 93% of testing done on students found it has a “Positive effect” on student achievement. Procon.org states that standardized tests are reliable and objective measures of student achievement.

“I think it is helpful because it helps you take tests and get ready for the real world and it tests knowledge you already know,” Kieran Shannon said.

With an introduction to “no child left behind” in 2001, testing has been a more serious issue in classrooms. Standardized tests are used to measure student growth. They are more importantly used to keep schools accountable for education.

“I do think it is helpful and I don’t think it is helpful. It is helpful because they know where you are but you don’t get your test scores back until the next year and you can’t start working on stuff until the next year,” Zion Eyraud said.

PARCC is one of the standardized tests used in Douglas County Schools and also used in 5 other states. The tests focuses on the core classes, mostly Math and English/Language Arts. CMAS is the same test as PARCC just named differently. These tests are given commonly to grades 3-12.
