Chocolate Mug Cake Recipe and How-To Video

Mug cakes are perfect for a quick dessert to enjoy by yourself or with others. Here is a simple recipe for a delicious chocolate mug cake:



  • 4 tablespoons flour
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • 3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
  • A small splash of vanilla extract


You will also need:

  • 1 large microwavable coffee mug
  • A whisk (preferably small)
  • A spoon


First, add the dry ingredients to the mug and mix well. Then add the egg, milk, and oil and mix well again. Use a spoon to scrape the bottom for any dry mixture still underneath. Finally, add the vanilla and chocolate chips (if you decide to add them) and stir the mixture until combined. Use the spoon to stir the chocolate chips so they don’t all fall to the bottom or get stuck in the whisk.


Put your mug into the microwave for 2-2 ½ minutes or until done. Do not overcook! Then, take the mug out and allow it to cool for a few minutes. The mug will be HOT! You can eat it directly out of the mug, or put it on a plate.
